Professor Abdul Mannan

Abdul Mannan is the Vice Chairman of Institute of Conflict, Low & Development Studies. Professor Abdul Mannan was born in Chittagong. He graduated from Dhaka University and completed his post graduate studies as an East West Center scholar from University of Hawaii. He also attended Miami University at Oxford, Ohio, US. He was also a World Bank Scholar. Professor Mannan entered teaching profession in 1973 as a Lecturer of Management at Chittagong University and was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the same university in November 1996 and served in that position till February 2001. Later he joined East West University in August 2001 as a Professor of Business. He joined University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh on January 1, 2008. Currently he also an Advisor to Board of Trustees, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.

Professor Mannan was the Chairman of the Standing Committee of Vice-Chancellors and President of Association of Universities of Bangladesh from 1997-99. He was a member of Executive Committee, Association of Commonwealth Universities, London. Professor Mannan was elected twice he President of Chittagong University Teachers’ Association and once the Secretary General of Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers Association. He was a part-time member of the University Grants Commission and the Shamsul Hoque Education Commission. Professor Mannan has at least thirty publications in reputed national and international journals. He has co-authored two books and himself authored nine. Currently professor Mannan is a leading columnist and analyst in Bangladesh on contemporary affairs and economic issues. His columns and analysis appear regularly in both Bangla and English Dailies in Bangladesh, and weeklies in NY, Washington, Tokyo and London.

Professor Mannan was the Chairman of University Grant Commission (UGC), Bangladesh.
